presentation of shortlisted works
Within the framework of the 2022-2023 "Thodoros Antoniou" Composition Competition for two pianos, which is co-organized for the first time by the Region of Crete in collaboration with the Greek Composers' Union and the Heraklion Piano Festival, the 6 shortlisted works will be presented on April 29 in "Pandeli Prevelaki" hall in Rethymno.
The competition was publicly announced by the co-organizers, the Region of Crete - Greek Composers' Union in September 2022 and was addressed to young artists from Greece and Cyprus.
The names of the composers who have been selected for the second phase of the competition are in alphabetical order: Pavlos Katsivelis, Lambrianidis Theofilos, Mastrantonis Angelos, Pasopoulos Stamatis, Haliasas Konstantinos, Chomatsas Efstathios.
The Competition Jury, "Theodoros Antoniou" 2022-2023 for two pianos, which evaluated the projects that were submitted, it consists of renowned musicians, such as: Giorgos Koumentakis (Composer, Artistic Director of the National Opera), Iosif Papadatos (Composer, President of the Greek Composers' Union, University Professor), Mina Borboudaki (Composer), Erato Alakiozidou (Pianist) and Spyros Deligiannopoulos (Composer, Pianist).
It is pointed out that the submission and adjudication of the projects was done on merit, respecting the anonymity of the candidates and only the names of the finalists are announced.
The presentation of the 6 shortlisted projects will take place in front of the jury, institutional representatives and citizens, in Rethymno in the "Pandeli Prevelaki" hall on April 29, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. Their presentation will be performed by the famous pianists: Grigoris Ioannou, Dimitris Karydis, Petros Moschos, and Christina Pantelis. The jury will then decide and announce the results of the second phase of the competition, while the awards will be given the same evening, accompanied by cash prizes. The "Theodoros Antoniou" composition competition is dedicated to the memory of the internationally recognized and multi-awarded deceased composer.
Starting from Crete the award-winning works will continue their journey in Athens and London, in collaboration with the National Opera and the Hellenic Center respectively.
