about the festival

The Heraklion Piano Festival started in 2016 with the aim to attract the local community to classical music concerts, to educate about the piano - the most popular musical instrument - and to give artists - new talents  but also pianists with an international career - the opportunity to present their artistic work.

Inspired by a group of three people, Dimitris Karydis, Ioanna Giannari and Petros Moschos, the HearklionPiano Festival has presented piano recitals of prominent Greek and international pianists such as Martino Tirimo, Katya Lebedeva, Dora Bakopoulou and Alexia Mouza.  Also concerts and events focusing on the piano, "the king of the instruments" (chamber music concerts, concerts that combine music with other forms of art such as painting and cinema, workshops for young children, masterclasses for music students, community music workshops, as well as production of Puccini's Suor Angelica opera (with piano accompaniment) have drawn the interest of the Heraklion audience.

The Heraklion Piano Festival returns for the fourth time with a rich programme focusing on the piano.  Concerts by renowned Greek and international artists featuring solo piano, two pianos, chamber music works, and a concert dedicated to L. v. Beethoven - marking the 250th anniversary from the birth of the great composer - will be taking place from February until May 2020 at the new Cultural Center of Heraklion, as well as in Rethymnon, Archanes and Peza.
